First off, props to Philips for winning the government’s “L Prize” for their, now titled “L Prize” bulb. It really does have to color and glow of a 60watt incandescent. But our concern is — coming from folks who make a living restoring vintage fixtures — can anyone see these space-age design bulbs in a vintage, exposed bulb fixture? Not a chance. There are quite a few older and historic homes who have original fixtures, and want to stay period correct.

There is still going to be the beautiful Edison bulbs in a 30-Watt, but not enough light to replace a single socket bulb that was once a 75 or 100 watt that lit an entry or work area. And probably, for the next five years or so, ways to acquire classic bulbs.
